Lakewood Middle School Set To Reopen Tuesday After Modulars Receive Permits

Lakewood’s Middle School is officially ready for reopening on Tuesday after the new modular classrooms received their necessary permits and approvals.

Lakewood’s public schools opened for classes on Friday, but the Middle School remained closed due to overcrowded classrooms that some teachers and staff said posed a health risk.

To alleviate concerns, the School District built modulars, consisting of eight new classrooms, to lower the number of students in each room.

The modulars were built safely but with great speed so that they could be up and running in time for the scheduled Middle School reopening on Tuesday.

Mayor Ray Coles came in the clutch for the School District by expediting the permit and approval process.

BOE attorney Michael Inzelbuch was effusive in his thanks to Mayor Ray Coles for his role in getting the modulars ready. “We are extremely appreciative of the efforts of our great Mayor to get these new classrooms the approvals they needed. Mayor Coles worked through the Labor Day weekend to ensure that the necessary permits would be issued in time for the Middle School to open on Tuesday. On behalf of Lakewood’s public school students, I thank him.”
