PHOTO: The Lakewood Middle School will soon have a completely new roof. “The roof was in bad shape”, says Board President Carl Fink. “It was desperately needed.”
The project, which went out for bid, was originally estimated to cost $3.3 million, but will in fact cost just under $2.3 million, a board official says.
Officials say thirteen companies placed a competing bid for the project, which was awarded to ABCD Construction company out of Brooklyn, New York.
The project, which began several days ago, is expected to be completed October 6, according to a district official. TLS.
How bad was it realy ?
Who got the job? Was it put out for a bid? And did the lowest bidder get the job?
Is anybody home?
Let’s throw a kiddush!
This problem with the roof needing repairs goes back many.many years. Previous Bd of Ed’s kept putting the repairs on the back burner.
WHAT COAST SO MUCH I THE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IS IT MADE OF GOLD
i know a few guys at the corner of 2nd street that will do it $10,000
Cant you read ? It says right in the article that it went out for bid!
Who are the principal owners of the ABCD Construction Co.? Why were the bid specs not limited to the State of NJ contractors? Keep the work here. It seems like more than the roof is getting a makeover.
Unlike the previous board of Ed, this new reformed board of Ed under Carl Fink and Chezky Zeitler actually care about all children in Lakewood , and finally replaced the roof.
Unlike the previous board of Ed, this new reformed board of Ed under Carl Fink and Chezky Zeitler didn’t give the job to their cronies, but rather accepted 13 bids, and gave it to the lowest bidder, thereby saving the district $1 million dollars.
You guys rock. But you need to explain things to the people who voted for you. Why does a nobody like me have to keep explaining things for you. I would suggest that you write an article every two weeks explaining your actions and positions, and how you’ve changed things from the way they were previously.
someone at the Bd of Ed should be fired if they missed the original estimate by a million dollars or is this “winning” bidder cutting corners. Just saying
Idiots only need to reply to a informational posting………………..
public school building needed a roof. end of story!
To #1.
It’s 4 small paragraphs. How bout you read it before commenting.
When you own a building it’s eventually going to need maintenance (I.e roofing). You can either fix it before its destroyed or wait till it falls apart and then you will have to pay for it to be fixed plus find a place for the kids to go to school. Which do you think will be a higher bill for the tax payers?
This is the most important piece of news I read today! What color roof is it going to be? Which material? which insurance company is the roofer bonded with? What are the ages of the workers doing the actual work?
uh.. i could build you an entire new building for 2.3 million..
Why start the project now as school is to reopen next week? It should have started back in June when school closed! Ppl don’t think, now if a student gets hurt they will sue like crazy.
Will it be a Slate roof material, hurricane proof.
How bad was the roof? when it rained there were buckets all around the building collecting the rain water as it came through the ceiling. That roof has needed to be repaired for years, finally getting done. Maybe now you can walk down the hallway without slipping.
just spoke to 3 roofers from lwkd no one knew about this
they needed a new roof when i attended the middle school 15+ years ago…
Thanks to the new BOE, all things are possible. Even a roof for the middle school, that was passed over year after year by former Boards.
Keep up the good work, my friends. Continue to make a difference for all the children of the Lakewood School District. The students, administration, faculty, stakeholders, and taxpayersl appreciate your ability to plan and implement major improvements.
# 17, the board advertised as usual for weeks before the RFP was awarded, Do you know if the roofers read English or was anyone’s payroll.
Just want to ask ….. why would a company from Brooklyn bid on a job in Lakewood ? Can anyone enlighten me ? ….. makes one wonder.
