A Toms River drug bust resulted in the arrest of three individuals, two of whom are from Lakewood, police said today.
On July 14, 2015 members of the Toms River Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team were conducting surveillance in the area of the Howard Johnsons Hotel, 955 Hooper Avenue. During this surveillance, officers observed suspicious short term traffic coming and going from the hotel. Following an investigation into the activity the officers determined the traffic was coming from Room 141 and subsequently arrested Brittney Gartner, 22, of Brick, as she left the hotel. Gartner was found to have an active warrant for her arrest in the amount of $2,500 out of Trenton. She was also in possession of 16 wax folds of heroin and three hypodermic syringes.
Officers then identified the occupant of Room 141 as Curtis Geathers, 30, of Lakewood. Geathers had an active warrant for his arrest in the amount of $500 for an unrelated matter out of Seaside Heights. After observing Geathers leave the room the officers approached and placed Geathers under arrest for the warrant. Also identified was Jashuawa Reid, 33, of Lakewood. A search was then conducted on the room which led to the seizure of 589 wax folds of heroin, a small amount of crack cocaine, under 50 grams of marijuana and $2,652.00 in U.S. currency.
Curtis Geathers and Jashuawa Reid were each charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, and possession of crack cocaine. Bail was set at $50,000.00 no ten percent for each of them. Reid was also charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana. Gartner was charged with possession of heroin and possession of hypodermic syringes. Gartner was also held on bail of $2,500.
