Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles wants your input regarding road issues

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

Question:

Dear Mayor,

As I ride around town, I feel like my car is on a roller coaster ride in an amusement park, but it’s not amusing.

I do recall a list of streets that were going to be paved. I don’t think many of those streets actually got paved. There are so many really bumpy streets in Lakewood- is there anyone to report this to? Taxes are so high; shouldn’t we be getting an improved infrastructure along with that?

Thank you.

Response from Mayor Coles:

Good morning,

We are in the midst of a major initiative to repave and rebuild many of the roads in town. Last year I had our public works department do a thorough study of all our roads to grade them from A-F. This will help us to identify the roads that are in the worst shape and address them as well as keep many roads that need repairs or milling and paving in good shape. If folks have a particular road they feel needs to be looked at, please write to me here and I will have our professionals see what can be done.

Thanks

Can this list be made public? And regarding the number of streets scheduled for repavement last year, I think your view on whether or not any were done may vary based on where in town you are located.

What happened to paving Williams and buttell??

Simply lease a high-end SUV like the people who call the shots do & the roads will feel just fine. A 10 year old Camry wasn’t intended for Lakewood streets.

That just makes it more expensive when you have to replace the tires after just 1/3 of its expected life.

There are still houses being built on Williams and Buttell.
The builders need to tear up the road to put down pipes.
So until that’s done, the streets won’t be paved.

We must repave North and South Lake Drive. It damages other people’s tires!

@Aleb, the Township is actually going to award a contract tomorrow night for the reconstruction of Case Rd all the way between 14th St & N. Lake. Some of the sidewalk gaps will also be filled in.

Ditto my answer regarding Case. Oak will be awarded tomorrow night.

@um Lexington was ripped up by NJAW. They are responsible for repaving the entire road.

, Williams and Butell was held off due to the proximity to the Sunset Rd project which already causes major road closures. It will hopefully be reached after that project is complete in June

The intersection by Washington and pine Street is a disaster. The rest of Washington is okay. It’s just at that intersection where it’s horrible. It feels like riding on a roller coaster. Mr Mayor please fix it ASAP it’s not a big job.

The orginal new England village. If you look at the pot holes there is only 2 inches of pavement. Was this ever paved properly? Looks like the builder skipped town!

are the feet of the contractors held to the fire, when the roads start falling apart? or aren’t level and have huge puddles?

Pawnee Rd is terrible.

BMG Student

Carey st between Forest and Madison. Thousands of cars drive on it each day to go to the two BMG buildings located there. There are huge potholes throughout the street that constantly open up after being repaired. Its time to repave the entire street from scratch like you did so nicely on Forest between 9th and 5th.

Williams Street between James and Prospect is terrible! Driving down that street a quick way to kill your car.
This is coming from someone who drives a late model car.

Weren’t the developers that ripped up the streets supposed to pay for repaving. I hope this won’t fall on the taxpayers.

PAWNEE ROAD………PERIOD!! While many other roads in this town have been repaved over the past years (only to later deteriorate), Pawnee HAS NEVER BEEN PAVED, and for years has been in worse shape than any other road! This is a travesty and a gross misuse of our sky-high tax dollars. The fact that there might be a permit out is a lame excuse, and certainly does not explain why all residents in this neighborhood need to suffer on a daily basis. Hope this helps, but judging from the precedent of past history, I doubt it will.
