The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].
Is there any reason that the local law that prohibits homeowners from using well water for domestic (home) purposes should not be abolished? There needs to be some ability to have consumer choice.
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good morning Michael,
I was not aware of anything prohibiting well use in town. I checked with our MUA Director & he replied – There is no law prohibiting well use for domestic service and there is no local ordinance that I know that mandates connection to public water if it is in front of your property. However, in the event of new construction or a domestic well failing the Ocean County Board of Health prohibits drilling of domestic Wells if public water is within 200′ or 300′ of your property .
