Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: Washington and Raintree Sidewalks

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to AskTheMayor@thelakewoodscoop.com.

Question:

Dear Mayor,

I noticed your reply on Washington cement sidewalks traffic issue, and Saturdays in Lakewood are really the best days to avoid almost all traffic and finish the work quickly, especially on such a heavily used street.
Additionally, do you have any information on why the sidewalks in Raintree that were recently installed on Lanes Mill Road Are out of blacktop and not cement and not leveled and/or don’t have curbs etc.

Thank you

Fellow Raintree Resident

Response from Mayor Coles:

Good afternoon,

We do our best to schedule work when traffic is at its lowest point.

The sidewalks on Ridge were done that way because the county does not know what their future expansion plans for Ridge and Lanes Mill are, and they would not allow us to put in concrete sidewalks and curbs. We got the OK to do the asphalt so that we could provide a safe way for pedestrians to travel along those roads. As soon as they schedule the road widening and intersection improvements, we will put in permanent sidewalks, curbs and the needed drainage.

Thanks

Ray
