Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: Vine Street

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to AskTheMayor@thelakewoodscoop.com.

Question:

Hi,

I just wanted to know when Vine street will finally be opening up. It’s been paved for months already…

Thanks.

Response from Mayor Coles:

I believe we are waiting for the final state permit to allow us to reconstruct the road between Rt 70 & the new road to make it a 2 way street. The state will not allow us to open a 2 way street onto a 1 way exit.

Ray

  1. Um… The State approval is required for Vermont. This question is regarding Vine.

Either way, I think the actual answer is that the County does not want the road paved until they complete installation of a traffic signal at Cedar Bridge & Vine. They have begun some underground utility work, but they still have a lot of work to do before the road can be widened and the traffic signal can be installed.

  2. Maybe they realized that something needs to be done to alleviate the traffic on Cedarbridge before adding more traffic… It’s already a harrowing experience getting to & from work.
