The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].
Question:
Dear Mayor,
Thanks for beautifying our neighborhood with all the newly planted trees. My question is regarding these trees. Who is responsible for the upkeep of trees? A few of the trees were knocked down during the Thursday storm and need to be replanted. Is it the township’s responsibility or the company that planted them? It would be a real waste for these trees to die! Please advise.
Thanks
A Somerset Avenue resident
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good morning,
Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I asked Public Works to take a look at these and see if any could be salvaged & replanted. The trees were supplied through a program with the Stare DEP and the company which planted them is responsible to make sure they survive the first couple of years. Any that die will be replaced. We have also notified them to come in & see what needs to be done.
Thanks
Ray

Also the landscaping company did not put any deer protection and many of the trees near the lake have been chewed up and will not survive.
A bunch of the newly-planted trees in the park next to Clifton Avenue Grade School are dead- please make sure they get replaced and maintained! Thank you!
