The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].
Question:
Why isn’t there trash pickup twice a week?
Response from Mayor Coles:
Our public works department is currently set up for a single weekly garbage pickup. To consider increasing, that would require a huge investment in manpower and the needed equipment. We are always reviewing and evaluating how we do business in town. While I do not see increasing pickups in the near future, it is always possible that could change down the road.
Thanks for reaching out,
Ray

Homeowners just need to get more garbage cans. It’s just common sense.
Just get other bin if ur out of space
can someone tell me what they put in their garbage?????? i have one green garbage and don’t fill it more than 1/2 way each week for a family of 9, filling one kitchen garbage bag approximately every other day. i pass families of similar size with three and FOUR garbage pails out by the curb. what on earth are you guys filling it with? even if you take out a garbage bag a day you can use only one can. are you using four garbage bags a day? what can you possibly be putting in it??????
Do you use plastic plates?
Lakewood used to have trash pickup twice a week. But we had smaller cans then and extra sanitation employees who actually picked the cans up and dumped them into the trucks. Hopefully with the larger cans, fewer employees and fewer pickups the cost has gone down.
To #3, I notice a huge difference in the amount of trash my household produces when I use disposables. I assume you don’t ,so you have less trash than most households, which use disposables.
Getting more bins just makes the smell worse. Pickup twice a week would eliminate much of the smell.
