Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: Trash Pickup Times

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

To The Honorable Mayor,
I’m so grateful to the sanitation department for taking our garbage every week. It’s not an easy job. However our garbage pickup time has been getting increasingly earlier. It used to be that the garbage trucks would come at 6:30 am which is really early, but today they came at 5:15 Am. They make a lot of noise and wake up my family. I understand that they start their route early to avoid Lakewood traffic. So I’m wondering if there can be a rotation system where they go to different areas at that time so that we can sometimes have a break in waking up so early from all the noise.

Thanks for your consideration.

Response from Mayor Coles:

Thanks for writing

We are currently working to try to revamp garbage pickup in town to avoid both the early and late noise as well making sure the trucks don’t make it harder for busses and folks trying to get to work.

Take care

  1. Dear Mayor Coles,
I have an idea that I believe will revolutionize garbage pickup & will make everyone happy.
The sanitation department should build an app where citizens can enter the day & time of pickup they prefer (or for those without internet a number they can call).
Instead of going house by house & block by block the trucks can follow a route created by the app that takes them to the residents at their preferred time.
    Thank you,
    Asher Zelig G.
