Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: Trash pickup Holiday schedule issue

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

Question:

It seams that after every legal holiday, garbage pick up is one day later. However most Lakewood residences put out the garbage to the curb on the regular day, taking up valuable parking spots and narrowing the streets causing extra traffic for an unnecessary 24 hour period. I am not sure why everyone does this. Perhaps it is because they don’t realize that garbage day is postponed. I checked the public works website but it’s not clear when garbage pickup is after a holiday if your regular pick up is Wednesday or Thursday.

Can you please clarify which holidays push off garbage day and to which day it gets postponed?

Also, perhaps you can send everyone reminders after every holiday using this platform?

Thank you,

Response from Mayor Coles:

We recommend that our residents download the Recycling Coach app. This app gives you a calendar of when garbage pick up and bulk pick ups are scheduled, including when schedules are shifted for holidays. It also has a section which will tell you what is recyclable and what is not. I will also ask the Scoop to post advisories when pickup is changed due to holidays.

Thanks

Ray
