Question:
Dear Mayor, thanks again for being available to the public. As I drive through Lakewood on daily basis, I notice many simple tweaks that would improve the safety of driving…and most definitely some common sense fixes that would improve the traffic pattern.
Just to list two examples, why is parking permitted on ridge avenue were it turns so sharply (between Hackett/Negba)totally obstructing the oncoming traffic?
Why wasn’t it the Townships priority to install a traffic light light by the James/Williams intersection? So why don’t we appoint someone from the township to oversee simple and basic steps needed to improve the driving conditions of our township?
Thanks again for your complete dedication to our township and it’s citizens!
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good morning. The light at James & Williams is a township priority. It is under county jurisdiction. Every time we meet with county officials, it is at the top of the discussion list. The county engineer assure us they are trying to expedite the design and construction of this light. Sometimes what appears to be an easy tweak gets complicated or very expensive. We do try to look at every suggestion and are always open to ideas from the public as well as our own employees who travel the roads constantly.
Thanks
Ray

Why do we keep seeing new “traffic causing” building approvals while we have all known the traffic has been unbearable for several years already. Case in point the new school that is opening right outside of WG. Huge building with a minuscule amount of parking right at one of the very few intersections that connects to the busy cross street area. This will be a nightmare for all of central ave, west gate etc.. I dread to see what kind of traffic on a regular school day forget a carpool day. Where are the buses supposed to drop off the kids?
Please Mayor Coles, if you have any influence on the Planning Board tell them to stop building cul-de sacs and only allow through streets to be built. Doing so will allow for more cross streets. Also if there is any way to connect the existing cul-de-sacs do it. Lastly only allow streets that are wide enough for parking on each side and 2 cars to pass that are going opposite direction without snaking around.
