Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles Responds to Your ‘Ask The Mayor’ Questions: Traffic Lights, Parking in Lane, Airport Road, Squankum Traffic

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

Question:

Good morning!

At the 14th st traffic light it’s unclear that there’s a turning lane so cars constantly go in wrong lanes. I think a sign near the traffic light will help.

Also, by County Line Road and Forest going North, there seems to be enough space to put lines for 3 lanes. Left on County, straight on Forest and Right turn. Cars put themselves in the center so no cars can go around them or be able to turn on red.

Also, the traffic along the lake on route 9 causes backup all around. There seems to be enough space or almost enough space to make 2 lanes. On the side of the road going North, there seems to be a few feet to add to the road.

Thank you so much for trying to help the traffic in Lakewood. Every change you help with makes a huge difference.

Response from Mayor Coles:

Thank you for these suggestions. I’ve asked engineering to take a look and work with both the county and state DOT to see what can be accomplished.

Take care

Ray

Question:

Good Afternoon Mr. Mayor!

Thank you for all your help with easing the congestion around town. Turning right onto 14th Street from North Hope Chapel Rd., cars are faced with multiple cars parked in the driving lane itself. I cannot imagine parking there is legal, as it forces cars to cross the yellow line and to drive directly into on-coming traffic. If something can be done to assure that no cars are parked there, so that the turning cars don’t face this hazard each time.

Thank you again for all your help!
An Appreciative Lakewooder

Response from Mayor Coles:

Good afternoon

I will ask traffic and safety to inspect the area and make sure proper no parking to curb in properly marked.

Thanks

Ray

Question:

Good day,
I would like to know is there way there can be a delayed light from chamber Bridge road to turn on airport road the traffic is terrible to many accidents and with the new business they turned left the traffic is making it hard for anyone to turn there need to be delay lights

Response from Mayor Coles:

Good afternoon

The county is beginning a prospect to improve the intersections along the entire length of Cedarbridge.

While that project is ongoing, we have asked them to make improvements at the Airport Rd intersection

Thanks

Ray

Question:

There is crazy traffic every Friday from 11:40-1:00 at Kennedy and squankum can we have someone take a look to see if there is anything to do, and maybe have some police patrolling at that time. The intersection is full of cars when the light is red so no one can go. Maybe we can get rid of that coach bus that does pickup at that intersection on Friday. Thank you.

Response from Mayor Coles:

Good morning. I will speak to the chief about having some enforcement there and whether we can relocate turnoff and pick up

Thanks

Ray
