Question:
Thank you Mr. Mayor for this most interesting and informative column.
I notice that at the light on the corner of Hope Chapel and North Lake Drive, going south, there is a left turn signal. I hardly see very many cars turning there, but for the traffic waiting to go the other way, it is very long, with no cars coming but delaying the flow of traffic going north. Can the camera be adjusted so that if no cars are in the turning lane, the cars going north will get a green light sooner? I also waited at the corner of 14th Street and Hope Chapel for cars turning south onto Hope Chapel and the wait was very long for only 2 cars. I have seen other lights being more responsive to a lack of cars in the camera and would think it would help move our traffic when these cameras are adjusted to keep things flowing. Thank you.
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good morning,
The county is involved with a project that will adjust timing and better synch all the lights in this corridor. I will ask our engineer to see if anything can be done here in the interim.
Ray

Dear Mayor Coles,
I was wondering if in order to add to the Purim spirit, Purim night all the traffic lights be set to continuously cycle between red, yellow & green. You may say this will cause chaos, snarled traffic & accidents.
Then I ask you, “Why is this night different from all other nights?”
Because the North Lake and South Lake lights are mixed up (Hence the sign oncoming traffic…), the left turning lights are also an issue. If I am waiting by South Lake to make a left and I see cars on North Lake waiting to make a left, I know I will get the left turning light on South Lake. I can’t believe after all these years, the switch was not corrected. If there is no left turning signal on North Lake, left turning cars won’t be able to turn if there is a lot of cars the other way as the light turns red on the South side before the North side. Going North on Hope Chapel, the light turns red on South Lake when there are 4 seconds left. On North Lake, it goes the extra 4 seconds. It seems like a quick computer switch. It’s been how many years?
