The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to AskTheMayor@thelakewoodscoop.com.
Question:
Westgate desperately needs a traffic light at the corner of Hillside Blvd, Lublin Terrace and Kingsfield.
On one side there is the main Shul which hundreds of people use daily.
On the other side is the Westgate Shopping mall.
Hillside Blvd is a very busy thoroughfare.
Making a left turn is very difficult.
Until a traffic light is installed at least Three Way stop signs can be installed.
Response from Mayor Coles:
We are discussing adding the stop signs this week. I will ask Traffic & Safety to look into placing a traffic light there.
Thanks
Ray

Instead of wasting time discussing it why don’t we just finalize a plan to install traffic lights at every intersection in Lakewood.
Traffic problem solved.
Then there would be many more accidents in Lakewood. Watch all the videos TLS posts that have traffic light controlled intersections. New Hampshire and Cedarbridge, for instance, is almost a daily occurrence.
Gotta love how you think lights are the answer to all problems. Lakewood is too infested with traffic lights that aren’t synced which makes it very frustrating to drive here. Adding more will make it worse.
No one is suggesting that traffic lights “are the answer to ALL problems.” And in the case of Hillside Blvd in West Gate (the sole thru-street in the development) syncing is not much of an issue at all. Certain hours of the day bring monumental gridlock, so that getting around or out of West Gate is excruciatingly problematic!
I’m under the impression though, that West Gate’s streets are private…so I don’t know if any governmental entity has jurisdiction over traffic signals here. Maybe somebody has some knowledge about this.
