The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].
Question:
Hello,
I drive by East 4th and Clover street almost daily, and I just wanted to thank you for the efforts I’ve seen being made to make sure as much traffic flow can continue as normal during the construction. I have been there on days where it looked like the work they were doing was enough to close the street off, but they were thoughtful enough to leave it open and have a policeman control the traffic. Thank you!
Ray
Response from Mayor Coles:
Thank you for reaching out. We put a lot of thought & planning into roadwork to minimize the disruption. I’m glad to see that it paid off in this situation
Take Care

Question:
Dear Mayor Coles,
First and foremost, please accept my warmest condolences on the passing of your father. May you and your family find comfort and strength during this difficult time.
I would also like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for your unwavering dedication and tireless work as the Mayor of our beautiful town. Your efforts are deeply appreciated by many in the community.
On another note, I would like to share a suggestion. This may sound a bit unusual at first, but I assure you it comes with genuine concern. It seems that many drivers in our town are not fully familiar with the basic rules of a four-way stop. As you know, the rule is simple: the first vehicle to approach has the right of way to enter the intersection. When two vehicles arrive at the same time, the driver on the left must yield to the driver on the right.
I am attaching a suggested design for a sign that could be installed on the same posts as four-way stop signs, to help improve safety and reduce confusion. Might it be possible for the town to install educational signs on these posts either above or below the stop signs clearly explaining these rules? A small reminder could go a long way in making our streets safer.
Thank you once again for your leadership and dedicated service.
With respect and appreciation,
M R
Response from Mayor Coles:
Thank you so much. Our family took great comfort from all those who reached out to share condolences. We greatly appreciate it.
Your idea does not sound unusual. I agree that we need to get folks to pay more attention to the rules of the road in town. I like the idea, but I have to look into whether we are allowed to put signs like this on stop signs, etc. I will pass it on to traffic and safety for their opinion.
In the meantime. I am going to ask the township to consider putting this sign in the various publications that go to everyone in town
Thanks Again
Ray
Question:
Hi Mr Mayor,
I once made a request and it was filled pretty quickly thank you for that. I’m hoping you can look into another one. Would it be possible to put sidewalks on John St between MLK Dr and River Ave? It is a high pedestrian traffic area and it is very unsafe especially at night. Thank you
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good morning. I forwarded you request to our engineer to see how we can add these tonight schedule.
Thanks
Ray

Except that almost everyone seems to know that in Lakewood the practice is for two opposite vehicles going straight to go at the same time.
This can halve the wait time, especially when it’s very busy.
a narcissist will alwaes take their turn first no matter when they arrive
