The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].
Question:
Dear Mayor,
Thank you very much for everything you do for us here in town — your dedication and efforts to keep Lakewood running smoothly are truly appreciated.
I wanted to bring to your attention that the street lights along Boulevard of the Americas and Avenue of the States have been off at night for quite some time.
This creates a dangerous situation both for drivers and for the many residents who walk or run in the area after dark.
Proper lighting is so important for everyone’s safety and peace of mind.
If it’s possible to have the lights inspected and repaired soon, it would make a real difference for our community.
Thank you again for your continued care and leadership.
Response from Mayor Coles:
Thank you for writing
We are aware of this situation and actively working to correct it. The main issue is that the location of many of the lights wires are not correctly marked. Contactors have repeatedly cut the wires during construction. Our engineering department is working with the contractors and building owners to get this repaired once and for all.

Question:
I appreciate everything you do for this town!
There are 2 streets that I drive down at night and are really dark;New
Hampshire avenue from Route 88 until Ridge Ave, and Central Ave.
Perhaps with sunset getting earlier, you can install more streetlights
to enhance the safety of drivers and pedestrians? Thanks!
Response from Mayor Coles:
I will ask engineering to look at adding additional lights there. I drive it very often as well
I appreciate you reaching out
Ray

Can we get lights on Oak Street between 9 and Vine, too?
