Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: Snow plow dug up my lawn

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

Hi Mr Mayor,

Thank you for all that you do for our town.

A tremendous thank you for the massive cleanup you did after every snow storm this season. From salting to plowing it was always well done and always taken care of in a timely manor. I cant thank you enough. In their zealousness to clean the street properly and ensure that there is no snow remaining, the snow plow operators had inadvertently dug up a nice portion of my lawn in the process, which is first coming to light at this time now that the snow is melting. While I’m sure this was not intentional, my lawn is a big ugly mess now. What can the township do to fix this issue and correct it?

Thank you again,

Response from Mayor Coles:

Good morning,

Thank you for the kind words about our cleanup efforts this winter. I want to take a moment to say Thank You to our Public Works crews, Office Of Emergency Management, Lakewood Police Department, the private contractors and all the volunteer groups who came together before, during & after every storm this winter to make sure that we could get around safely to our jobs, schools & doctor’s appointments. They all worked very long hours and deserve our thanks.

I am sorry about your lawn. Please get me your address & a crew will take care of the damage.

Let’s hope this winter is behind us. I for one am looking forward to Spring!

Take Care & Stay safe,

  1. Good luck with that. Three sections of sidewalk have been damaged around my house over the years, two sections by the township, one by the county. When I called up about it the county said it wasn’t their problem that I’d have to go after the contractor that was widening the road. The contractor deferred to the county so nothing was ever fixed, the blame just kept going back and forth. The township was even worse saying that it was my responsibility to repair the sidewalk even though I told them I could prove that the township was at fault and had called them promptly after the incidents. So the township wanted me to not only pay to repair the sidewalk, they also wanted for me to pay for a permit to repair a problem they created.
