Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: Sidewalks

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

Question:

Dear Mayor,

Thank you for all you do for our town and for giving us the opportunity to ask questions via this forum.

What is the process for getting our block on the radar for having a sidewalk installed? Are there any steps I should be taking and is it realistic for it to actually happen because of our request?
(Kimball Road)

Thank you

Response from Mayor Coles:

I will ask public works to take a look at the area and see what is required. It is realistic, since we are always looking to add sidewalks to areas to increase pedestrian safety.

Thanks for letting me know

Ray

    • Cause the sidewalk is very bumpy and uncomfortable for long walks versus the street is one smooth long walk other then the sidewalk and going up and down at every corner and the bumps between with trees coming out of the ground and having to go around it. So instead they take the street and it’s just a smooth straight walk

  1. Mr mayor: aside from directing the question to the appropriate party, can you also provide the answer to the question?
There are many others in town who would like to know the process, and short of each one of us sending in a request to you through the lakewood scoop, we don’t have an answer.

    • It would seem that they began the install process.
In case you’ve never noticed, from when they pour the pads for the traffic lights it can often take upwards of a year to fully install, program and bring the new signal online.

  2. Can someone explain what needs to be done to have a sidewalk installed on Central/Lakewood New Egypt Road from WestGate to Route 9? Most of it is there, but there is a strip between Gudz and Jules Ct that does not have anything, and it is very difficult to stay off the road due to extreme overgrowth on the right of way.

  3. If our community would use the sidewalks, otherwise why bother.
I’ve lived in Lakewood for 62 years. It’s all about respect. I love and respect my neighbors and I wish they felt the same for me. My community walks on the roads rather than sidewalks on the sabbath and holidays.
The community has no care if I’m driving in my car and expects me to wait while they casually walk. If there are sidewalks please use them.
