Question:

Hi,

Can the township make another shortcut over the lake with a walking bridge? its can be near the south lake park. It would help for men that would like to walk to yeshiva. also the current paths need more light. Thanks for your help.

Response from Mayor Coles:

We are actually in the process of having new docks installed which will include a path across the lake. We hope everything will be in place by spring.

  1. A car bridge is dangerous.
Yehuda Shain asked the Township for the past fifteen years to make a pedestrian bridge across the lake.

The Township responded that the EPA and other environmental issues, so it can’t be done.

  2. I was also thinking that hey could do this. If you look at an arial view of the lake, you’ll see that the current boat dock (for boat rentals on N Lake Dr) goes about 1/2 across the lake, so just extend it. They’ll have to make a bit of a bridge for boats to pass under. And will it be tall enough for pontoon boats? Or it could be taller – with steps on and off.

  3. A walking bridge is a great idea to help fund services in Lakewood. Like every other bridge in New Jersey it should have a toll.
I think $2.00 per crossing is fair with an option to buy a monthly pass for a discounted rate
