Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: Safety Issue

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

Question:

When turning left from James street on to the 9, or from pine to the 9, one encounters an interesting problem. When the light is green and you inch your way into the intersection in the turning lane, you are no longer in view of the traffic light, it then leaves you to guess when it turns yellow or rely on a honk from the cars going the other direction. Most intersections have traffic light across the intersection from the cars, meaning the traffic light intended for the James street cars would be on the pine side of the intersection rather than the James side which is how it is now causing anyone who’s passed the intersection line to be out of view of the light. What can we do to fix this problem?

Thanks

Response from Mayor Coles:

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I have asked Traffic & Safety to look into this and then work with the county and state engineers to eliminate the safety concern

Thanks

Ray

  1. Great idea! And when the State DOT does that, please have them add the desperately needed left turning arrows, preferably at all 4 sides of the intersection.

  2. I think it’s time for Lakewood to take the bill by the horn and and start doing things for the town that would alleviate all the traffic problems.

The county could care less about lakewood, it’s time for the residents of Lakewood to give them the ultimatum….

We get very little for our high taxes. (No school vouchers, dangerous traffic, hours lost in traffic, loss of wages…
