The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].
Question:
Hello,
Every morning I travel up Route 9 and turn right onto Oak Street. I noticed recently that some cars turn onto Halsey Street, which does not go all the way to the 9. So these cars drive straight up the curb, onto the grass and then bump down the next curb onto Halsey, effectively cutting through a dead end. This seems extremely dangerous to me, as they are driving on grass and sidewalk, which is meant for pedestrians; not to mention damaging the property it’s on. Can the street either be opened up, allowing cars to safely turn, and if not can the dead end be blocked off more effectively?
Thank you for your time,
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good afternoon,
I believe we are waiting for the state to give permission to open that street. In the meantime I will ask public works & PD to see what can be done to discourage folks from going over the sidewalk and curb like that.
Thanks for writing.
Ray

And this is how streets that should be open, and people driving vehicles with high enough ground clearance that can safely traverse already use that street gets shut down adding more traffic.
Why can’t jealous people control their urges?
Most of this question was innocent, but the notion that people are too dumb to figure out where is safe for them to drive is a bit over the top.
Jealous? No. He’s actually saying that it’s not right what they are doing and there should be a way to stop drivers doing something which is illegal and definitely not yashrus.
Actually
From all the traffic issues in Lakewood this is what he chose.
I’m sure those people are looking out for pedestrians, have you heard of any accidents that occurred there? No!
Yes, some people are jealous and they have the moiser bug!
Typical of Lakewood Township Juvenile Committees.
Build a road without coordinating with the State.
Examples:
1) Halsey Street (& the other streets in that neighborhood
2) Vine from Chestnut to RT. 70.
Excellent planning!
