Question:
Dear Mayor Coles,
Someone in my neighborhood has a rooster. I never saw it, but I hear it! Every morning between 3:00-5:00, the rooster crows. I can not open my window at night as the rooster wakes me up.
What are the regulations regarding ownership of a rooster in a residential area in Lakewood Township? What are my options to rectify this intrusive situation?

Good morning,
Private ownership of chickens and roosters is not permitted in town. If a chicken coupe is discovered, animal control will have it and it’s occupants removed and relocated to a farm. If you have an idea of where it is, let my office know & I will have it looked into.
If the animal is loose and in the woods, there is little we can do about it, unless Animal Control is able to capture it.

If you take rooster/ neighbor/ garbage bin problems with the mayor, you got bigger issues.
May a chicken drive a vehicle other than a coupe?

To doesn’t matter: it does matter when said chickens are wandering onto your property and damaging your flower beds and waking you up at 5am every morning, not to mention the droppings all over the place. Btw have you ever seen what damage a rooster can do to you if it gets you with its talons?
A rooster doesnt have talons. Some breeds have things called spurs but usually only usw them during breeding against other roosters. I agree with not keeping roosters but hens arent nearly as loud and a lot of people depend on them for their eggs and meat.
