The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].
Question:
When heading south on Rt 9 at the corner central Ave. I believe we can ease up some traffic if right turns on red would be allowed. If that’s not possible, then we should be able to put a green right turn arrow for the cars going south on Rt. 9 to turn right on Central while the cars on Central have their left green arrow.
If I’m not being clear, please contact me and I will be happy to meet someone at the intersection to explain .
Thank you
Response from Mayor Coles:
Hi Shmuel
You are being crystal clear.
We have been asking the state to put turn arrows at that intersection and will continue to do so until we get it done.
Ray

WHEN IS THE TOWNSHIP GOING TO REALIZE THAT THE STATE DOESNT CARE ABOUT LAKEWOOD. WE HAVE BEEN HEARING FOR YEARS ABOUT SIMPLE CHANGES THAT NEED TO BE MADE AROUND TOWN AND RARELY DOES ANY THING HAPPEN
Obviously the mayor is not speaking to the right person. This request was put in with the previous mayor, so its an old song already
Why not just pull down the no turn on red sign? It seems like it’s being done all along the 9 – The No left turns on first Street and many other blocks seemed to have disappeared! And why is there a no turn on red on 2nd street or 4th etc. – if it’s safe to make a right turn on first and 3rd etc. without a green light what changed when there’s a light? Why does it suddenly become unsafe if there is no green??
wow I approached a Lakewood committee man about this over a year ago, and still nothing has been done, this is a no brainer!! while people coming down central have their left green arrow ,rt 9 south should have a right green signal the same time…(go down there and you will see what I mean)it will move aprox 10 cars off of rt 9 every light.. which would be great
Many other corners can use this including Clifton and 88 coming up the hill there is absolutely no reason we can’t make a right while the left arrow from 88 onto Clifton is green
How about a green right turn on the corner of Clifton and main st. You can alleviate some traffic there as well with a right turn signal when main st has a delayed green turning on to south Clifton.
