Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: Raintree/Ridge

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

Question:

Dear Mayor,

As a Lakewood resident for many years I would like to request in the name of our Raintree\Ridge\Joe Parker community to elaborate on certain road and sidewalk responsibilities in our area.

We have been pushed around between the Township and the County as to who’s responsibility certain roads and sidewalks belong to both in terms of construction and upkeep, and would appreciate clarity as to whom we should be turning to for road and sidewalk issues.

1) There is a large pit that has been dangerously open for the better part of the winter. It is uncovered, dangerous, and once a person falls in it would not be able to get out by itself. After numerous calls to both the Township and the County there has been no action taken. This whole\pit is located on the grass on the corner of Ridge and County Line. (That either belongs to the Township or the County)

2) There is a desperate need for a sidewalk between County Line Manor and Ridge Avenue. Most if not all of County Line has had a sidewalk built besides this last stretch. There are hundreds of people and children waking there every weekend and is very unsafe and dangerous. This a dangerous area and a sidewalk will protect us for potential harm.

In the name of the entire community, we ask that you review these items as soon as you can to ensure the safety of a few hundred families in Lakewood.

Wishing you only the best,

Jack W.

Response from Mayor Coles:

Hi Jack,

I’m also a long time resident of Raintree. I forwarded you email to our township manager to get the “pit” checked out immediately. Pat just got back to me and will have the hole filled with stone until the county can do a permanent repair.

I share your concern about the Ridge County Line intersection. We have been working with the county for a couple of years to get them to upgrade the turning lanes. Once we get the final configuration from them we can install sidewalks.

  1. When it comes to the County or State, why does it have to take years? As you wrote above, “We have been working with the county for a couple of years….”. The same is with the intersection of New Hampshire and Cedarbridge. Hundreds and probably thousands of man hours are wasted by cars waiting to make a turn from New Hampshire Ave onto Cedarbridge Ave that is green for 4-5 cars!
