Question:
Good afternoon Mayor and thank you for all that you do for the town.
In the area of cross street between Lakewood New Egypt and white street, (between 12-48 Cross street) and at the intersection of Cross Street and prospect, there are many potholes that keep getting temporary fixes for the last few years, those fixes don’t last more then a couple of days, at least 2 of my cars and many others that I know have had their suspension recked.
Is there anyway they can do a permanent fix?
Thank you so much in advance.
Response from Mayor Coles:
The county will be doing a full paving of Cross. We have asked them to make sure any needed pothole repairs are done until the final work is begun.
Thanks
Ray
Question:
Thank you for your concern. Is it possible to get a 4 way stop sign at the intersection on sunset and liberty. I know it’s a county road but we need the township to advocate for us. It would allow for easier turns and also safer for pedestrians. No one stops by the crosswalk . Also a ” striped box” so it doesn’t get blocked when traffic backs up allowing for turns in and out of the neighborhoods.
Thanx again
A neighborhood resident
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good morning
I’ll ask our engineer and traffic and safety to work with the county to address this.
Thanks
Ray
Question:
Dear Mr Mayor,
This is not my first time writing and I am always amazed at how you take the time out to consider and respond to requests across our wonderful town.
I have 2 questions:
The park at sunset road was recently redone and we are all enjoying it. The rubber floor added so much!
Now that it’s getting dark very early and there is still more time that the kids can play outdoors, I tried taking my kids to the park one late afternoon. We couldn’t see a thing. There is only a dim street light illuminating the park and we had to leave a short while later. Would the township consider putting some strong lights there so we can enjoy the park even after sundown? (It would also be good for safety.) We’d really appreciate it.
My other question is regarding route 9. I know it was a huge project to get approved by the state and it looks like it’s underway. I’ve been noticing that sidewalks along the route have been redone, and it’s a nice upgrade. I only wonder why they’d do that before widening the road that I assume is part of the big project. Does that mean that route 9 isn’t getting widened? We waited so long for easing up of traffic and I’m getting nervous by these new sidewalks!
Again, thank you very much for your attention and responses.
Take care,
Rachel
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good morning
I have asked Public Works to look into upgrading the lighting at the park.
We have advocated for the state to widen Rt 9 for decades. The work they are doing now is only widening areas where they need to put in turning lanes.
What they are doing is slightly squeezing the lane width to allow center lane turns. This is what they did north of the lake years ago. It did improve traffic flow tremendously, since turning cars did not stop traffic trying to get by them. This is the philosophy they are applying to Rt 9 south of the lake.
Thanks
Ray
Question:
Good morning,
On the Lakewood Township website, there is no garbage pickup on Veterans Day. Where I live garbage is picked up today on Monday so I did not put out the bins along with many of my neighbors. However, the garbage truck came at about 6am to do the pickup! Can you please explain and let me know if the truck will be back to collect the garbage?
Thank you.
Response from Mayor Coles:
The truck will be back tomorrow,
We have crews working 24/7 despite most holidays. They just try to get a jump on the pickups for those folks who put cans put early.
I understand how confusing this can get.
I was just discussing this with Committeeman Lichtenstein yesterday & we are working on it.

Thank you Mr Mayor for all that you do for all of us… It’s not for nothing that they call you America’s mayor!
its mind boggling how on many blocks on rt 9 where they are putting ion their permanent sidewalks, would of cost them nothing to squeeze the sidewalk in closer to the forest aprox 6 feet, once your doing the work just do it right for crying out loud, we don’t want more closures in 6 months because they decided to widen the rd, its been miserable with all these rt 9 closures. Theres no oversight and input from the neighbors that know these roads and drive them many times a day
truth be told there’s no reason this Rt9 work has dragged on so long, if they would have larger crews when they block off the street much more can get done in one night, seems like they have no deadline, and just casually moving along without any pressure what so ever. Fact is the curbs and sidewalks are very dangerous now in many areas , and the closures are unbearable, if only they would be held to reasonable deadlines, things would move along! I’m in construction I’m familiar with time lines and hoe it forces you to move quickly.
sunset and liberty is really bad, definitely needs stop signs.
If ”we have advocated the state for decades to widen Rt 9”, then perhaps it is time to hire a new advocate? Or at least a new strategy?
A Democratic State with a town that voted Republican, there is no chance the work is slow on purpose.
Just look what FEMA did in Florida, a Trump sticker on your house and FEMA walked by.
