Question:
Attention Mayor,
I live in Westgate and have very poor Verizon Wireless Phone and Internet Service as well as very poor Optimum Home Wifi.
These are expensive with poor service. The problem is there is very little to no competition.
How can this issue be solved?
Response from Mayor Coles:
I know most carriers are always looking for new places to put towers & they almost invariably run into opposition from the folk closest to those proposed towers.
There are other options for Phone & Internet. The cable company can provide hard-wired internet and they also provide mobile phone plans. There are multiple other carriers you could choose from.
Thanks
Ray

How can we complain about service if we also complain everytime they want to put up a tower?
Can’t have good service w/o towers
Exactly!!!
We don’t want roadwork done during the day because it causes traffic issues & we don’t want it at night because of the noise. But we also want well paved roads.
None of the carriers work in Westgate due to the Mayor’s stated reason. In case of an emergency R”L, dialing 911 would probably work but not Hatzolah’s number.
The solution is to either get on with the facts and approve towers that are save Vs running into disaster scenarios as above, or ask the carriers to distribute LTE Network boosters in Lakewood like they did in the old days. It’s probably in their best interest to do so regardless.
The carriers stopped giving out signal boosters once home Wi-Fi became popular and fast enough to reliably make Wi-Fi calls.
Are you offering your backyard? They’ll pay nicely
I purchased extenders for my optimum WiFi setup and they work quite well. Don’t use the ones optimum provides, those are terrible.
I understand that Jackson Township pressured optimum to improve their service. I do think it has improved.
How do you write to the Mayor?
In 1987 I lost a quarter in a pay phone that was in Lakewood.
So you’re the fellow who lost that quarter in the pay phone! I’ve kept that quarter in my shirt pocket ever since that fateful day when I entered the phone booth, saw the quarter in the change slot and ran after you to return the quarter to you. But alas, it was too late – you sped off in your car, and much to my regret, I was stuck with a lost quarter that belonged to a man I did not recognize.
However, fate works in strange ways, and now I have the chance to return that long lost quarter to it’s rightful owner. Please meet me tomorrow between 9-5 PM at the location of your choice, so I can return the quarter to you.
And please don’t tip me for doing what I’m supposed to be doing. In lieu of tipping me, I’m asking you to donate $1000 to my charity organization. Please write out the check to ‘Cash’, or leave the ‘Pay to the Order of’ space blank.
Thanks. It’s a pleasure doing business….. I mean, it’s a pleasure doing chesed – with you.
I lived in the area for a little and switched to At&t and it worked perfect. (for talk&text that all I had, don’t know about internet)
Ps. I got redpocket it’s $10 a month Talk & text
Lol 😆
Optimum is a very lousy carrier.
That is exacerbated by their garbage Wi-Fi-modem combo (which they charge you $10-$15 a month for)
Spend a few dollars to buy yourself your own modem router or even a modem router mesh system for better coverage within your home.
T-Mobile service is almost non-existent in Lakewood as well.
I have AT&T prepaid and it works terriffic
