Question:
I wanted to share an idea I had which I believe is a solution to part of the traffic concerns on MLK and Pine St. One of the issues with putting up a light is that Pine St West will back up past Forest park and perhaps Marc Dr which would then make it impossible to make a left from Forest park onto Pine ST. I believe a solution to this problem is to make a right turning lane similar to the one on the corner of Squankum and County Line where there is sort of a right turn exit. This will keep the right turning traffic flowing even while the light is red. and cars that are trying to go straight will not hold up the cars that are trying to make a right. This definitely will cost money because you will have to purchase the property at the corner but a while ago I spoke to the owner and they said they would entertain the idea of selling.
Response from Mayor Coles:
Thanks for your letter. I have already asked our engineering department to get me ideas on how to widen Pine St, specifically to address issues like the one you mention.
Thanks
Ray

I think it would be a lot cheaper if they opened up Arlington, so a lot of cars get to Cedarbridge Avenue.
There is another solution where you can put up a light by Marc and have the light a long red for the cars going west on pine while it’s green by Martin Luther so the intersection will clear up allowing cars to make a left from Marc similar to what is done on North lake and hope.
what about a turning lane on Washington Street so the cars making right don’t have to wait for cars waiting to squeeze onto Pine Street left? especially with new houses going up with new phase of affordable housing in Lakewood Commons?
It’s a good idea and I don’t think you’ll need to buy any property. There’s already enough room for 2 lanes on pine st west
Can anyone explain why Vine St hasn’t been paved and opened between Pine St and Cedarbridge?
To Hhhh, I don’t know if it’s true but I heard they can’t open Vine St. because of some environmental issue in connection to a rare flower that grows in that area. Does anyone know if that’s true?
I think its because of the rare flower or whatever it is, but I think their working on trying to figure out the situation so that it can be opened.
Us old time Lakewood residents call these rare flowers weeds and treat them accordingly.
What we really need to bring safety is a lower speed limit.
Open Arlington!
