Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: Pine Park Bathrooms

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to AskTheMayor@thelakewoodscoop.com.

Question:

Hi!

As someone who plays tennis and basketball in the park quite often, I was wondering if there was ever a plan to put in regular bathrooms?
The porta johns are not very sanitary nor do the kids like to use them…

Ty!

Response from Mayor Coles:

Good morning,

Unfortunately, it is not feasible to put in full bathrooms in that section of the park. There are no utilities available. The cost to bring them out would be huge and much of that land is preserved, so we may not be able to get permits to do the work. I will ask Public Works to pay closer attention to the porta johns and get them cleaned or swapped out more often

Ray

  1. What about putting in one of those trailer bathrooms? I see them advertised every so often for events. Maybe something can be arranged for the park?

  2. there is water and sewer at the bar there. just need run line underground and pull it till entrance to park near gazebo area. Yes it will cost 200,000 but not having normal bathrooms at park is ridiculous. We were there yesterday for night out and it wa very nice but left early bc sorta johns were hot and had no water . There is also water running by fountain next to playground so has be water line somewhere

  3. An Askan with inside information told me that 148 of the 149 acre park is about to be gifted to a developer. He has already received a variance to build 605 2&3 bedroom apartments with 27 available parking spots.
When these apartments are completed the utilities will be close enough that if the developer chooses to he can (at his own expense) run utilities to the (newly renamed) “Last Acre Park”
