Question:
Would it be possible to paint “don’t block the box” grid lines at the intersection of Pine/James and River Ave (9). I am there every afternoon and I can’t tell you how many times people are sitting in that intersection, usually going North on 9, when there light turns red. As a result, both Pine and James Street traffic often accomplishes nothing on their green light. In lieu of someone actually writing tickets, the grid box would at least help a little bit. Thank You, James E
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good evening
We will ask the state to add the box or give us permission to do it.

Question:
Hi, There was some under street work done over the last few months on E 4th street from park Ave to manetta.
The utility company repaved the street and it has become a nightmare. The surface is bumpier than any street I’ve been on. New deep potholes keep showing up as well. Cars are scared to drive more than 5 mph so they don’t ruin their cars, causing even more traffic to an already heavily congested area, and this will cost daily drivers a lot in repairs from the abuse their cars are taking. It feels like a third world country.
Can there be some township intervention to have the street repaved professionally ASAP.
Response from Mayor Coles:
I will ask our engineer to inspect the area and have potholes and other issues addressed by the utility
When major utility work like this is done, the first coat of paving in installed. There is normally settling in the new pipes and fill installed over them, that cause some unevenness in parts of the road way. If it was final paved immediately after installation, this would crack and cause problems.
That being said, there are standards they need to meet, and we will make sure they take care of any issues until final paving can be done.
Thanks for writing

Question:
Dear mayor coles there is construction going on every night on squankum road they are replacing the sewer line and they only do it at night and it wakes up my family every night is it possible to do it by day when they work they block off one lane but there is still place for another one on the shoulder.
And also, they are replacing sidewalks is it possible to make a cross walk on squankum like they did on New Hampshire thank you very much for all you do.
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good morning
I am sorry for the inconvenience and noise. We do our best to keep all the needs of our residents in mind when construction work is done. Unfortunately, due to safety and traffic concerns, some work has to be done at night.
I have already passed your idea for the cross-walk on to the county engineer.

I read all the “Dear Mayor” articles. Almost all are about the various traffic or road problems. Did any of the writers think that most of the problems are caused by the tremendous population explosion in town these past few years? The more houses being built, the more people will come and, therefore, the more vehicles on the roads. I would strongly suggest to the mayor that all building, especially townhouses, in Lakewood be ended. Any more increase in population the worse the road problems will get. BTW- I moved into Lakewood in 1962.
yes we are well aware of the of irresponsible Deveopment issue , we have been telling the vaad about this for the past 15 years, they couldn’t care less
If anyone would really care about the traffic than they would vote for a different candidate by elections, apparently not enough people care to do a change yet, hopefully by next election when I run we have enough people to make thier voices heard
