Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles Responds to Your ‘Ask The Mayor’ Questions: Path Around Lake, Hall Traffic

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

Question:

Good afternoon,

I walk around the lake every day and mostly on the north side the path is made from gravel.

Gravel makes it very uncomfortable to walk on even could be dangerous especially seniors.

Could there be anything done about removing the gravel and replacing it with crushed stone or nothing at all just plain dirt.

The path on the north side is beautiful as it’s totally shady.

Thank you for looking into this

Response from Mayor Coles:

I will definitely ask Public Works to go over the area again. We are limited as to what we can use there. Impervious coverage is forbidden, which is why things deteriorate quicker than we would like. We want the area to be safe for all to enjoy.

Thanks for letting me know

Ray

Question:

Hi thanks for keeping an open line for everyone in this town to voice their concerns and be able to relieve timely answers and solutions. Recently traffic has gotten bad around the oak street area at all hours because of the many new halls. Is the township working on widening the roads and more stop signs? Also in the morning since oak is a school zone every side street has become a cut through. Could I suggest two intersections that could really benefit from 4 way stop signs? Funston and bellinger where traffic backs up all the way down bellinger because funston is a cut through without a stop sign. Also makes it impossible to pull out of schi. Also vine and spruce where there’s lots of ppl rolling slowly on spruce causing vine to back up.
Thanks,

Dave

Response from Mayor Coles:

We are looking at a number of solutions. We are building a municipal parking lot in the area to help with parking issues and are hoping to institute a shuttle which can take folks from one event to another without having to move their cars. We will also look into potential traffic improvements in the area

Thanks

Ray

We just went to a wedding and an accident happened right in front of us. Seems like there really needs to be a light.

And I hope I won’t hear the usual excuse “it’s a county road”. If that’s the case, new halls should never have been built before the light was approved and installed.

But, we all know how things work around here. Unfortunately.

Sadly the afternoon shuttles no longer turn down oak for pick ups. Did the routes change?
