Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: Path and Sidewalks

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

Question:

Dear Mayor,

Thank you for all you do on behalf of our town!
2 questions for you:

1. Is it possible to have the dirt walking path around the lake paved with asphalt?

2. How can we get a sidewalk on Kimball Road? All of the surrounding blocks had sidewalks put in a few years ago but Kimball Road was skipped over. Our kids have no where to play and ride safely and more importantly our school bus stops are at the corners with no safe spot to wait. It would make the world of a difference to us to have sidewalks.

Thank you!

Response from Mayor Coles:

Good morning,

We cannot place an asphalt path around the lake due to environmental issues. The material used for the path must be porous so the the water can percolate through it. I will ask Public Works to check the path and do any needed repairs.

I will look into the sidewalks on Kimball.

Thanks for writing.

Ray

  1. Dear Mayor Coles,
Thank you for the wonderful work you do for our community.
As you may be unaware, which is why I’m informing you, when walking around the lake many of our children get hot & need a way to cool down.
I think I have the perfect solution.
Perhaps for a few hours each shift Lakewood Police officers could be stationed every few hundred feet on the path to hand out (Cholov Yisroel with at least 3 Heimish Hashgachas) Ice Cream to help us cool down (or hot chocolate in winter).
Another idea (I’m full of them if you want to meet privately) is to have once a week where the LPD gives out on the path hotdogs & hamburgers (but NOT at the same time as the Ice Cream!!!) to citizens enjoying the beautiful lake.
I can’t wait to meet you privately to discuss some of my more outlandish though helpful plans.
    Sincerely,
Your biggest fan (I have a picture of you in every room in my house & no I don’t find that creepy)

  2. The Township is applying for a State grant to convert the existing stone dust surface walking trail into a porous asphalt
pavement bike path surrounding Lake Carasaljo.

The proposed improvements will span approximately 3 miles and encompass both sides of the lake and the western connection through the wooded area.
