Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: Parks

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to AskTheMayor@thelakewoodscoop.com.

Question:

Hi,

As you know, there are unfortunately not so many public parks in Lakewood. I was upset to see that the Lakewood Lake Park has a broken section and the first park by Pine Park also does.

These are 2 parks are used a lot by many Lakewood residents.

Is there any way we can get them fixed?

Thank you!

(Additional email: To clarify, I am talking about the playground areas at these park. The playground area at the Rockefeller park is also broken.)

Response from Mayor Coles:

Good afternoon,

Public Works was able to identify the parts needed to fix the units at the Lake & in Pine Park. The play set at the lake should be fixed as I type this. They have ordered the parts to fix the set in Pine Park.

Rockefeller (or Ocean County Park) is a County facility. We have notified them of the problem & asked them to get it fixed as soon as possible.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Ray

  1. Once we’re at it there was a proposal to require developers to have a play area for older kids such as basketball courts why did you say homeowners do not want it? Which homeowners did you speak to? I don’t enjoy being asked everyday to pull out my car to have the kids play in my driveway….

  2. Another idea is to have the mayor give clear details regarding barbecuing in parks around Lakewood what is and what is not allowed thank you

  3. Why is it that if my grass is 1 inch too high i get ticketed by the inspector but it takes a the residents to notify the mayer of lakewood to order parts for broken
park swigs etc. which has been broken for a very long time.
Doesnt the town have a parks dept who are supposed to inspect these things?
