Question:
Dear Mayor Coles,
Thank you for giving us this forum to voice our questions, concerns and comments.
There is something that has been bothering me for a while. Generally, when you have two one-way streets, one right after the other, one will go north and the other south. Or one easy and the other west. The only place where this doesn’t happen is Washington street. I know the residents in the development there were very upset to have traffic going thru their quiet development, but making one east and the other west will greatly alleviate the traffic on Marc and Washington streets. They are public streets and we all pay taxes the same way the residents there do. How is it fair that in order to make some people happy, we inconvenience a whole lot more?

Response from Mayor Coles:
Good morning
We are currently conducting a traffic study of the entire township. One & Two Way Streets are part of this discussion. I will forward your question to the planners and make sure they consider it.
Thanks

The street in pine river village are private. Plowed by the hoa. The city just has to provide services for garbage and lighting because of taxes and they are not a gated community. But the actual road and repairs is privately owned.
Can someone please ask the mayor why Arlington isn’t being opened up to Pine?? Obviously the people Who live on Arlington don’t want it to open, but they bought there knowing it’s always been a paper street. Everyone agrees Pine Street traffic is unbearable and this would seem to be a quick an easy fix. I’m sure the residents on Marc would rather their street be a cul de sac. Wouldn’t everyone agree that for the town as a whole this would be an easy & great thing.
That’s a very valid question
Thank you, @please explain!! If the Mayor is reading this, can you explain?
Yes! Opening up the pine river streets to two way traffic will most certainly alleviate much of the heavy backup on Washington.
It is not right that the road was closed to eastbound traffic – especially when the residents in that development add plenty of traffic to the area, making it that more difficult for the cars turning left onto Pine.
I don’t think it’s possible to open Arlington without the town using eminent domain as near pine street the street gets very narrow it would only be able to be a one way without parking. Huge shul on the corner with tons of parked cars. Vine might be a better answer
Each time I pass Pine & (would be) Arlington, I get so upset. Here is a street that would be very easy to open up, costing us very little, and it doesn’t get done because of some “insider” in the area.
Why would we pay millions to open a street on wetlands (& will probably never get done because of all the legal issues) when we can easily open up Arlington. And maybe it should be a 1 way from Pine to Cedarbridge so the residents can still park on both sides… what do others think?
Arlington is a very long block to become a one way street. Its unfair to the residents to do that. Its also very narrow by pine plus a shul there. I heard it was looked into and it didn’t make sense. I think getting rid of 3 way stop sign is the answer. Pple that need to make a left onto pine from martin luther can just go up Avenue of americas and turn right.
To me: if it becomes one way from pine to cedarbridge how do area residents get to shul. They have to go a whole roundabout way. Pple need to get their kids to babysitters and morahs. There will be lines of cars backed up to turn onto martin luther so that pple can just get their kids around the block. Yes its convenient for u but for the whole area which is alot of pple it will be a nightmare. The only thing that could work is if its only one way from pine until wynatt.
One way until wynatt is a good idea. Having cars driving through arlington will also obligate parents to watch their children, and teach them street safety. Something beneficial for everyone.
Can the mayor please let us know why Arlington isn’t being opened by Pine St.?
Why should we sit even for one extra day in the terrible traffic?
Obviously the people on the block don’t want it, but as mayor of the town, your obligation is to serve the interests of the town as a whole, and 99.9% of the town will benefit immensely from opening it.
Also, even if Vine eventually gets opened, we’re still definiitely going to need this opened as the traffic there is unbearable and is only going to get so much worse as more dense housing is currently being built in south Lakewood.
Will the township consider making 9th and 10th street one way from Madison to Lexington due to all the traffic and parking around Bais shalom/Bais aharon
People teach their kids safety, what about the driver’s zooming down the street knowing very well there are plenty of kids playing outside.
there is no need to do a traffic study about Arlington. it is an easy fix to pave that small strip that is left unpaved. it would have been even easier if the town didn’t “allow” some builder to dump all his dirt and debris on the public’s right of way and create a little mountain…
