Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: Oak Street Park

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

Question:

Thanks for all that you do for our community.

Why is the park locked on Shabbos when the neighborhood kids should be playing there?

Please take care of this.

Sincerely

Spruce street neighborhood

Response from Mayor Coles:

Good afternoon.

That was a mix up with the Board Of Ed. They changed the lock in the park and didn’t alert the police department who normally opens and closes the park. I’m told it has been resolved.

Just be careful in the heat.

Ray

  1. Upon learning that Mayor Coles took quick action to ensure that Oak Street Park will be open on Shabbos and available for leisurely strolls, one Lakewood resident told reporters on Friday: “With Mayor Coles at the helm, getting problems resolved in Lakewood is like a walk in the park.”

  2. Wow! One of the jobs of the police is to lock & unlock parks. If you tried to give that job to the police where I live they would laugh in your face.
