Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: Oak and River

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

Question:

Hello, Why does the intersection of Oak and River not have a traffic light!? This intersection is a severe Hazard and delay for all the local residents. Please get a light there ASAP! That intersection is way past a crossing guard. It’s time for the traffic light.

Response from Mayor Coles:

The state has approved our request for a traffic light there and at Broadway. That construction is scheduled to begin next year, along with many other improvements.

Thanks

Ray

  1. i pass the area multiple times a day. the crossing guard there controls the traffic in the most amazing way. I know they days that he is not there- even when maned by a police officer- when there is backed up traffic. He is the nicest guy out there.
If i can say this comment, is probably by someone who did not want to follow the guards directions- which unfortunately happens.

  2. With all due respect, I am quite horrified that the question was written this way. 🙁
I live right in that area and I and all my neighbors greatly rely on the crossing guard. And we appreciate his service immensely. When deciding to head in that direction I calculate if the crossing guard is there or not.
We are all eagerly awaiting for the traffic light because the hours that he is not there the situation is quite bad. (Maybe TLS can take away the line that says he does nothing as its unkind and untrue.)

  3. Gabis- I beg to differ. I know it’s a hard corner to guard but he does not do a very good job and is always yelling at the cars!! Enough of hearing the state is scheduled to put a light there next year, it’s been way too long already and next year can be 11 months away.
Route 9 traffic should be the only thing on the township agenda right now!!! We should be sitting in Trenton all day and night to get it done!!!
We’re all sick and tired of hearing that it’s up to the state and we have to wait for them!!!

  4. Yes, I see him yell at cars at time, you know why? When they don’t listen– when the driver cuts around him or they make a turn when he tells them to stop.
In case you didn’t know, he was hit at that corner already- and he came back to work after he was rehabilitated.

  5. Who ever asked that question in such a disgusting way should not be answered!

They should stop the building- bottom line is traffic on route 9 moves.
