Question:
Hi Mr. Mayor,
Thank you for your time,
I’m definitely not the first person to be inquiring about this – but what is the plan for the New Hampshire x Chesnut intersection? I thought I recall reading that a traffic light is planned, however when I once called 911 after witnessing a bad accident thirty feet in front on me on that very intersection, they told me that there is no way a traffic light will ever be put up there.
If you would check the police records, I think you would find dozens of accidents reported at that very intersection last year. It’s an incredibly tough intersection to navigate, with cars coming from all directions, attempting difficult turns with limited visibility.
Looking forward to a positive response!
BD
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good morning BD,
There is a light and redesign of the jug handle coming to that intersection. The main obstacle is that the intersection is controlled by the county & the state. They are working together to get these much needed improvements done. We had the county engineer at out last meeting & when questioned about this he told us that plans are well under way and hopefully we may see some work there late this year. I asked that the plans be forwarded to the township as soon as they are ready & I will share then with the public at that time.
Ray

Great. It’s a very dangerous intersection.
In the meantime just don’t block the box and the coast will be clear for safe travel!
Which of those streets are state roads. My understanding is that New Hampsire is county. Chestnut is definitly not state. Does the state control intersections of roads that are not state.
Let’s stop beating around the bush. Everything would be fine if we stopped all construction Permanently in Lakewood. This town is overcrowded everybody knows it everybody says it everybody thinks it except for the Township committee people.
I guess I may never be a believer
