Question:
Hi,
I live on New central Avenue and we had a block meeting to discuss the danger on our street coming out of westgate there is a turn going on new central avenue toward van buren street.
A few years ago we sent in a request for the township to monitor the speed of cars which is totally unacceptable especially on the turn where thers no visibility 10 feet in front of you and there’s children walking on the sides at all times of the day and night…
Especially there is a school on the block and a few shuls so there are kids and adults always walking, scootering, biking on the road.
They decided or saw the dangers and put a sign with a yellow light.
This summer it has been getting worse and weve been seeing cars with speeds that are definitely extremely dangerous on any road especially on a wide turn.
We dont know what should be the solution however maybe we can get a wide sidewalk or another solution you can suggest.
There is no sidewalk on the westgate side of new central avenue.
Please help us!!!
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good morning. I will get together with the manager and engineer today to see what we can do to make things safer there. Thanks.
Ray

Mr. Mayor, please take the engineers and walk the area with them.
It is very different hearing about it than seeing it.
Would be a good a idea to speak to the engineers before approving these problem areas. Now I hey gave to go back and try to fix the problems that you allowed them to create.
What good are sidewalks when too many people choose to ignore them and walk 3 abreast in the street.
