Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles Responds to Your ‘Ask The Mayor’ Questions: Multiple Questions – Fireworks and More

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

Question:

First I would like to thank the Mayor for all the great things he does for this town.

I would like to know if the brick sidewalks on Clifton Ave. will be replaced with regular pavement. There are numerous bricks that are missing or loose and create a tremendous tripping hazard especially for the residents of the senior citizen center.

Also who is in charge of cutting the grass and weeds along 5th St. on the south side between Clifton and Lexington near the township parking lot behind Gelbsteins? With tick season in full swing that can be a health hazard.

Response from Mayor Coles:

Thank you.

We have been waiting for the state to approve our UEZ’s 5-year plan. Once that is set, we have access to the allocation the state is giving us. Our plans for the downtown include replacing the brick with new sidewalk. We will also be adding a crew to make sure the downtown stays clean and safe. In the meantime, I will ask public works to clean up the weeds

Thanks
Ray

Question:

Is there any way to trim the leaves and branches that are hanging over the sidewalks, starting frm south lake drive. It’s especially difficult while bike riding. Thanking u in advance!!

Response from Mayor Coles:

I’ll ask public works to take care of it.

Ray

Question:

Thank you for taking time to answer all questions

Personally I try not to drive during rush hour times, I understand that there is a lot of traffic then, However at other hours during the day and night when there is not a lot of traffic, why can’t we have the traffic lights blinking for either an all way stop or 2 way stop, for example, The traffic light by the corner of Miller Road and Central ave is not necessary when it’s not during rush hour, so if we have it blinking there won’t be any car backups like there is now by these traffic lights

Response from Mayor Coles:

Thank you for taking the time to write

We have switched several lights in town to blinding after hours. We investigate each request. Some are not done, because traffic & safety do not feel it is safe to do so, Others, which are either on county or state roads are usually denied. I will ask our engineer to run this by the county to see if they agree to the change

Take Care

Ray

Question:

Dear Mayor Coles,

I am writing as a concerned citizen regarding the fireworks display for Lakewood Township. Last year, the fireworks were postponed due to rain, and unfortunately, they were never rescheduled.

Given that the fireworks display was not held last year and the budget for it had already been allocated, I am curious to know if this means Lakewood Township will be having a double fireworks display this year. It would be a wonderful way to make up for last year’s missed event and provide the community with a memorable celebration.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Concerned Citizen

Response from Mayor Coles:

Sorry, just the one this year, but it will be great. I’m looking forward to seeing you this coming Sunday for what I am sure will be a memorable event

Ray
