Question:
Dear Mayor Coles,
I would like to thank you for all the wonderful work you do for our town and for always being available to assist when needed.
I am writing to ask who is responsible for maintaining the drainage basin located at the corner of River Avenue and Henry. Earlier this year, bushes and trees were planted at the site, but it has not been maintained since. The area has become overgrown with weeds, both within the basin itself and along the sidewalk on the River Avenue side. In addition, the fence on the River Avenue side is falling in.
Unfortunately, the site is beginning to appear neglected and is turning into an eyesore. I kindly ask that you forward this message to the appropriate entity responsible for the property so the area can be addressed.
Thank you for your time and assistance
Yosef
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good afternoon. Our engineers did some research on this today. The basin is part of the Rt9 project currently underway.
The response below shows what caused the issues and what their plans are to get it rehabilitated as soon as possible:
The fence will be repaired within the next 2-3 weeks. Believe it or not, that was caused by the flooding this summer, when trash and debris got caught in the fence during a storm and the force of the water caused the posts to begin to overturn.
Our landscape subcontractor is mobilizing towards the end of October to install additional trees/bushes on the project and at that time they will be maintaining and weeding much of that area. When they are complete, we will review if any additional cleanup/restoration is required. We expect concrete to be complete in this area by November, which will also make a large improvement.
Question:
Going North up the hill on South Clifton, traffic builds up.
I am suggesting we put a green arrow, to allow the cars to turn Right when the traffic light is Red and the left turn arrow for the traffic going south on Clifton is also red.
This is a simple solution which would help significantly.
Response from Mayor Coles:
Thank you for the suggestions. That intersection is controlled by the state. We are working with them to make adjustments to the roadway & signals.
Thanks
Ray
Question:
1) Heading east on South Clifton just before Hurley the right lane has both a straight arrow and a right arrow with the word only. l painted on the ground
That can be confusing because from the right lane the only legal options are to go straight or right can the word Only be painted over?
2) At the intersection of Clifton Ave and 2nd street there is a flashing light with stop signs on the 2nd street side. Why the expense of a full light if it is only used to emphasize the stop sign
3) On 1st st the side that has the bus station has a no stopping sign which makes sense because busses can be blocked by the sign. Can there be signs posted for rideshare passengers to cross the street for pickup.
Also an easy solution to keep that area clear for turning busses is make the section of 1st from Lexington to Main one way only headed west for cars but allow two way for busses
Response from Mayor Coles:
Thanks for reaching out
I just answered an email about the 88 intersection. It is controlled by the state, but we are working with them to make improvements
The light was installed quite some time ago, but we soon realized it created more problems than it solved so it was switched to flashing only
I will see if we can add signs for ride-share.
Thanks
Ray
