Question:
Dear Mayor Coles,
Over the years the township has slowly added street signs such as no parking signs, no turn on red signs, no left turn signs, etc. throughout the town in various critical areas. These signs help reduce traffic as well as accidents in the many places where they are placed.
However, recently I have noticed a disturbing trend. In areas where new construction goes up, some of these signs cause an inconvenience to people who frequent these areas and they seem to disappear. Signs that restrict parking around building that don’t have enough parking get removed. Signs that restrict turning in and out of certain areas that would inconvenience these new building tenants get removed. These are only a couple examples of some of these issues of the disappearing signs. Is there a record of all street signs placed throughout the town as well as a maintenance crew responsible for ensuring these signs are where they are supposed to be and visible to the people who need to see them? If not, maybe this is something that can be implemented to ensure that we are going forward with the issues that we face everyday?
Sincerely,
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good afternoon,
I will ask the manager to work with Public Works and the police Department to set up a method of identifying when signs go missing and to ensure the timely replacement.
It would be very helpful if folks who notice missing signs contact us directly at town hall. We will keep all sun correspondence
confidential.
Thanks
Ray

The Houston Astros received harsh criticism in 2017 after it was revealed that they were stealing the signs of opposing pitchers. Hence, I could only imagine what kind of criticism the traffic sign thieves will receive.
The Astros Manager and the GM were each suspended for the entire 2020 season. Will Lakewood Township suspend the traffic sign thieves for the rest of 2023?
