Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: Lake Carasaljo

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

Question:

Dear Sir:

I live on Lake Carasaljo and I appreciate that the township has begun to refurbish the much used and broken benches near the lake.

AI wonder whether it would be possible regularly to remove the bottles and other junk that accumulate at the sides of the lake?

Response from Mayor Coles:

Good morning,

Now that spring has finally arrived, our public works crews will transition to regularly cleaning & maintaining all our parks. We will get the area around the lake cleaned up.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Ray

  1. There is also a need for more garbage bins around the lake. On Monday mornings, especially in the summer, the garbage cans are overflowing and create an unsightly mess. The areas where there are no bins nearby are filled with litter. Yes, everyone should make sure to clean up his own mess, but unfortunately that doesn’t always happen. If we make it easier to keep the area clean, we will all benefit. The lake is such a beautiful asset to Lakewood, it’s a shame to see garbage all around.

  2. I actually took a walk around the lake with my wife yesterday and it was disgusting. Special attention is needed by the bridge near the old beach….Thank you.

  3. the water level of the lake was extremely low during January. Now it’s high again. Missed opportunity. It will be more difficult to remove that fallen tree in the lake along route 9.
