The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].
Question:
Hi Mr. Mayor,
Firstly thank you for all that you do for our town. I know this issue was once brought up but so far the problem still remains. When going down Kennedy making a right onto squankum cars are constantly making a right on red, blocking both lanes and making it impossible for cars coming into Lakewood going straight to get through the light. There really needs to be a no right on red on that corner to alleviate the congestion. Is this something that can be done?
Thank you in advance!
F.D.
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good afternoon,
I will ask Traffic and Safety to take c look and see if we can make it safer without tying up traffic.
Thanks

Same problem by Prospect and Williams heading towards Cross. If cars on Prospect make sure not to block the box, as soon as traffic moves up a bit, the cars on William turn right keeping the cars on Prospect from moving forward.
You can ease traffic on County x Squankum by getting rid of the school security guard that blocks traffic (against a green light) multiple times every morning.
Just Open Kennedy all the way!
Paper streets should be opened!
It will be much better.
We can Open it!!!
Agreed
How would that happen, how many houses are in the way?
Dear Mayor Coles,
Thank you again for the wonderful work that you do.
Here’s another one of my grand ideas that will transform Lakewood for the better.
We all know the most important thing sustaining Lakewood is the Torah study of our men & boys.
In certain cities (I believe Tom’s River has it) Emergency vehicles have a device that changes the traffic light to green as they approach ensuring a quick safe passage through the intersection.
This got me thinking. What if all Cheder buses, carpool vans & Kollel vehicles in Lakewood were fitted with these devices?
How many fewer hours of Torah study would be wasted waiting at red lights?
Please let me know what you think.

That device you’re talking about might be, cv, subject to abuse, creating more traffic accidents. Only emergency vehicles should have them & no one else. Have a gibentched year.
Guys,
Just accept the fact that there are too many cars on the road for the current infrastructure and wait it out.
THANK YOU FOR BRINGING THIS UP!!! This is a problem every day!!! Please, please make sure there us a no turn on red sign!! Thank you
