Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: Hope Chapel and South Lake

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

There’s a problem with the light on Hope Chapel at the corner of South Lake drive. You can’t see what color is lit when you’re too far away or too close to the light. (all the colors look black) Are there any plans to fix this?

Thank you!

Response from Mayor Coles:

Good afternoon,

I asked engineering about this. Apparently this is by design as a safety feature.

Special lenses are used when signals are in close proximity to each other as is the case with north lake and south lake drives on Hope Chapel. You can only see the illuminated lights from certain distances, this is to avoid the confusion of looking ahead and seeing the two different signals.

Hope this helps.
