The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to AskTheMayor@thelakewoodscoop.com.
Question:
Thank you for all your hard work for our town.
Question-I’ve seen in other towns that at a certain time of night, most traffic lights change into blinking four way stop signs. Can that be implemented here in Lakewood? Most intersections quiet down tremendously, and it would be very convenient.
Thank you, Moe
Response from Mayor Coles:
Many of the towns I have seen do this are smaller towns that do not have much nighttime traffic, such as shore towns in the fall and winter. Lakewood really does not have a time of day where traffic is almost nonexistent. It is a good idea however, and we have converted several locations to this flashing arrangement where we can demonstrate that traffic is significantly reduced during the overnight hours. If you have a particular intersection you feel may benefit from this please let me know & I will ask Traffic & Safety to investigate.
Thanks for reaching out.
Ray

Mr Mayor,
Can we have the no right turn on red be in effect only from 7am-12am.
No reason we shouldn’t be able to make a right on red at night.
Thank you!
Can we arrange that for the lights at the cargo entrance to westage?
Can the traffic light on Princeton and Kennedy/ county line be blinking after 12? The county line is very long and hard to wait esp when theres no car in sight.
I am pretty sure the mayor does not read the comments on the posts that contain his responses.
You can submit a letter to him through the scoop, he really answers them.
Maybe all 4 sides of traffic lights should flash red. Perhaps that will be more effective than a 4-way stop sign. Who knows?
