Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles Responds to Your ‘Ask The Mayor’ Questions: Fireworks, Vermont, Motorcycle Racing

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

Question:

Dear Mr Mayor

Why is the 4th of July not being celebrated on the proper day that it should be? A lot of us are wondering why we can’t celebrate our day as we always had in Lakewood. Monday the 7th is a work day for us that’s not fair to most of us. Just curious. I think I have an idea. I just want to know for sure. Thank You.

Lived here all my life.

Response from Mayor Coles:

We haven’t done fireworks on the 4th for quite some time. This year it falls on a Friday and many Lakewood residents would not have been able to make Saturday either. I believe Sunday was booked. I’m sorry for the inconvenience. Have to be up and out early as well. Will do our best next year

Thanks

Ray

Question:

Good day, Mayor Coles,

Is it possible to get a traffic light before the Wawa driveway? Cars coming from that direction are coming at full speed and they have the right away. When the light is red on Vermont, it is not necessary for cars to clog up that area. Cars that are coming from Route 70 West and are using the Vermont U-turn have a hard time making the left turn. Once the light turns green for Vermont it is even more difficult.

Thanks for your time and consideration.

Response from Mayor Coles:

Good afternoon

I will ask engineering and traffic & safety to see if a light can be installed as well as what can be done to adjust the existing lights.

Question:

With all the repaving of Cross Street. It’s been nothing but motorcycle and car racing up and down the road. Is there anything that you could do to stop this?

Response from Mayor Coles:

I will ask the chief to increase enforcement along the road, and look into whether the speed limit needs to be lowered.

Thanks

Ray
