Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: E. County Line Road/Brook Road

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

Question:

I would like to request meaningful information about when the road diversion due to construction/asphalting in the vicinity of E County Line Road/Brook Road is expected to end and the road surface to be restored.

I drive there every day on my way to work, and due to the extremely bad road surface, my car is exposed to heavy wear, and all drivers have to slow down because of the lane pulling, which also hinders the normal flow of traffic.

Paving machines used to be parked along the road, but now they have also disappeared, it seems that the company responsible for the road is not really preparing to finish the work in the near future.
Please hurry up the works, this situation has existed for almost two months now!

Best regards,
Ferenc

Response from Mayor Coles:

Good morning. We actually discussed this with the county engineer at a meeting last Friday. This is a county project. Due to shortage of certain supplies, the rising cost of oil, which directly impacts the cost of asphalt and other increases with their contractors, the cost of the project increased beyond the amount they are allowed to approve without getting the County Commissioners to vote on an new maximum.

They are supposed to do this at their next meeting and hopefully complete the project soon thereafter.

Thanks

Ray

  1. Its just amazing how the mayor or the scoop chooses always only to respond to these few questions that we see week after week. I asked a few times, what is his plan about people parking on both sides of the street and there is left room for only one car to pass at a time thus creating bottle necks especialy when its the street approaching major roadways. NO RESPOSNE

  2. I have had the same experience when I sent an email asking about Vermont Avenue as to why it’s taking so long, as well as it’s been so many years that we are waiting for a left turning lane on Pine Street headed towards Route 9. If it’s not in the mayor’s control who are the officials that are dragging their feet with this as this is important information to keep in mind when we elect state and county officials

  3. My 2 left tires were instantly popped by this exact construction area a couple months back.
I filed a property damage claim with the county for reimbursement and I was denied.
