The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].
Question:
Hi Mr. Mayor,
I have noticed that the downtown area businesses receive trash pickup from the Township.
Business owners around town all have to pay private haulers for their trash.
Do the businesses pay the township or is this being paid for from the taxpayers money?
I am curious why that would be the case.
Thank you in advance for your response.
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good afternoon
Garbage pickup for the downtown’s business district has been provided by the township for decades.
The main reason is to make sure the downtown stays as clean as possible as well as to prevent the potential nightmare of a dozen different private garbage carriers trying to get around at the same time.
Thanks
Ray

Mr Mayor that was a good answer but you still avoid the question and didn’t answer the question straight up. I can understand the idea of not having all kinds of different companies picking up the garbage but do they reimburse the township for the services provided?
The downtown area is picked up by the township and is not reimbursed. Paid for strictly by the taxpayer, while a business capitalizes on free sanitation services. If the town was worried about people leaving it a mess then have code enforcement do their job and ticket them if they do. It is absolutely ridiculous that they get free sanitation services……
