Question:
Dear Mr. Mayer:
I would like to thank you so much for this service. You are amazing.
One of my garbage cans has a hole and a crack in the lid. When I called public works, they said they would come to repair in 5 – 10 business days. It is already a month. When I called them again they asked if it was eaten by an animal. I told them that I imagine it is possible but I certainly didn’t see it. They then explained to me that they are not responsible for this kind of damage but if I would like to purchase a new can I can do so.
Why am I responsible for this? Also, when I told them that it is also cracked besides the hole they transferred me to the “head of cans” and when I was transferred all I got was a very high pitched squeak.
Thank you very much.
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good morning
I am sorry about the miscommunication. Please call Pat Donnelly at Public Works. I have spoken to him & once he gets your address, he will take care or repairing or replacing the can.
Take Care
Ray

I also have damaged cans. When I called for repair they sent down a guy with a roll of duct tape. Good luck getting anything fixed.
I’ve only had good experiences with public works and my trash cans. We got them fixed in no time with no questions… I actually have done the same for my neighbors.
I too have a cracked lid on one be of my cans. I came home to see it on its side after garbage pickup. I assume the lid got cracked from public work negligence. It appears they knocked the can over when they put one back down.
They replaced my bin a couple of years ago and within two weeks, a squirrel bit a while through it. Of course they’re responsible, it’s their bin!
The slash on the side of the can comes from when the claws of the garbage truck doesn’t grab the circumference of the can rather the can itself. I’ve seen this happen with my own eyes.
By the way I’ve had a very good experience with public woks.
I got no complaints about them replacing cans, but am wondering why they brake so often, I had 2 cans break within a month of receiving them. Maybe they need a new supplier.
