Question:
Hi Mayor Coles,
Thanks for your commitment to out town.
I live in the ever congested Ridge Neighborhood, where there is never ending construction and subsequent road closures. Oftentimes, contractors/trucking companies close roads at their discretion without any notification/police presence causing traffic and safety concerns. Is there a way to report these incidences that contractors/ companies are held responsible?
Additionally dumpsters are placed on streets that are no standing/parking zones, causing tremendous traffic/safety issues. For example a dumpster placed on Dewey st corner at E 5th st. I’ve seen busses unable to turn due to the obsruction of the dumpster placed dangerously at a corner of a narrow st. Again is there a way to report this type of traffic/safety concern? Are there laws in place for where large commercial construction dumpsters are placed on narrow residential roads?
Thanks in advance,
Ridge area constituent
Response from Mayor Coles:
Thanks for reaching out
I spoke to Sgt. Work who thought these were really good questions.
He responded:
Call the Traffic Safety Office @ 732.363.0200 Ext. 5380 to report unauthorized construction work or construction questions.
Dumpsters are not supposed to be placed on the roadway without authorization from the Police Department, all dumpsters need to be located on the owner’s property.
If you see a dumpster on the roadway, please call Traffic & Safety & they will determine if it is allowed to be there.
Take Care
Ray
